Apostolic Nuncio Osvaldo Padilla Visits Gwangju
(Finally a new entry after more than a month of blogging hiatus). Apostolic Nuncio Osvaldo Padilla visited Gwangju last 19 October 2008. I was so glad to have a chance to meet him face to face when told that he will visit the May 18 National Cemetery. Chris my colleague at The May 18 Memorial Foundation assisted in providing a tour at the cemetery. He was with the Archbishop and Monsignor of Gwangju during the tour. He was also brought to the May 18 National Cemetery Museu. He was impressed with what the Korean government had done to memorialize the heroes of May 18 and told Chris to keep remembering their noble deeds for democracy. Then in the afternoon, Archbishop Osvaldo Padilla co-celebrated the mass with Gwangju's Archbishop, Monsignor and several priests in Wolgokdong Church. He was also given a preview of the services and programs that the Catholic Church is providing the Filipino community (both migrant workers and the family of Filipinas married to Korean) in Gwangju.
