Ingay ng tambol

Image
Mula sa wikipedia: Korean drums play an important part in traditional Korean music, ranging from folk music to royal court music . There are a wide variety of shapes and sizes, for use both in accompanying other instruments and in special drumming performances. In the traditional Korean classification of instruments, drums are grouped with the hyeokbu , or instruments made with leather. During the Joseon period, many types of drums were used for the royal court music, including the janggu , jwago , yonggo , gyobanggo , jingo , jeolgo , nogo , and others. Among these, the janggu was also used for folk music, and later became the most commonly used drum used in Korean music. Unang LP Entry sa taong 2010... LP -Mahalagang Regalo: Mata

Image

Taean Oil Spill Clean-up

Image
From wikipedia : At about 7:30 local time on December 7, 2007 (2230 UTC on 6 December 2007), a crane barge owned by Samsung Heavy Industries being towed by a tug collided with the anchored Hong Kong registered crude carrier Hebei Spirit (Chinese: ę²³åŒ—ē²¾ē„žč™Ÿ), carrying 260,000 tonnes (290,000 short tons) of crude oil. The incident occurred near the Port of Daesan on the Yellow Sea coast of Taean County. The barge was floating free after the cable linking it to the tug snapped in the rough seas. Although no casualties were reported, the collision punctured three of the five tanks aboard the Hebei Spirit and resulted in the leaking of some 10,800 tonnes (11,900 short tons) of oil.[4][5] The remaining oil from the damaged tanks was pumped into the undamaged tanks and the holes were sealed.[6][7] The spill occurred near Mallipo Beach (in Taean County), considered one of South Korea's most beautiful and popular beaches.[8] The region affected by the spill is home to one of Asia's largest ...

Tayo ng mag-swimming!

Image
Wow this picture was taken exactly a year ago. My good friend Tracey brought me along to one of the small islands in Wando for swimming with another friend Stew. I did enjoy the beach with its cold water and not so hot sun. Beach scenes are definitely interesting (hehehe) and this boy enjoying his watermelon-looking beach ball is refreshing sight. Check out this couple: and this mermaid too... good friends Tracey and Stew I definitely miss Tracey for all those exciting travels and trips. Comes weekend I hope to go and see the beach again this summer for the Mud Festival in Shinan. Below is a short excerpt from Wando County website: Wando County consists of 200 large and small islands having ancient mystery, and it is the first-class clean sea area in Korea. Wando County provides abundant marine products including ear shell, laver, bundle, kelp and flatfish, which is the most delicious and high-quality in nation. Jang Bo-go, the Great ...

Cognac: Alak Mula sa Gawing Kanluran

Image
Mula sa e-how ( http://www.ehow.com/how_2139692_buy-good-brandy.html ) Brandy is simply a wine that has been distilled to the point at which its alcohol level has reached 40 to 60 percent of its total volume. Luntiang (green) Salad

Image
Luntiang Salad In Korea vegetarian reastaurants or Chaesik Buffets are gaining prominence because of the Mad Cow issue. Korean government insisted to import beef from the US in exchange of exporting freely its cars and other electronic products under the FTA (Free Trade Agreement). Some see the issue not necessarily of mad cow perse but a culmination of different issues against the government neglect to hear to the voice of the people. Unlike the previous administration branded as leftist, the current government of Lee Myung Bak is very conservative. People are beginning to see him as a CEO of Korea's businesses more than a leader. So he revamped members of his first cabinet and had shelved the controversial Grand Canal Plan (a river network connecting Seoul to Busan that will cut across the country), a success claimed by green or environmental groups. So green... people are now discovering green vegetables more than ever. Korean diet has plenty of fresh vegetables, like when t...

Balikbayan box:Tatak Pinoy, markado!

Image
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia    A Balikbayan Box A balikbayan box (literally returnee's box) is a cardboard box containing novelty items brought by or sent by a Filipino who is returning to the Philippines from a foreign country.[1] These boxes contain non-perishable food items, canned goods, other food items, toiletries, household and kitchen stuffs, time saving devices, computer parts, electronics, toys, designer clothing, personal items, and hard-to-find items in the Philippines.[2] In 2006, I wrote a blog entry about balikbayan box with this link: http://peterahon.blogspot.com/2006/04/balikbayan-box.html Okey, my apologies for the non-Filipino readers but jokes are best delivered by the language and medium of the speaker and  audience could very well relate with. I believe most Filipinos have read this email that circulated few years back. I tried looking for this email in my mailbox but unsuccesful so I found it on the web instead, from this link: http://www.geocities...

... I Learned in Kindergarten

Image
Yana with a baseball. Robert Fulghum's All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten; in its utter simplicity yet full of wisdom. Indeed what we become as an adult is the dynamics and process of our childhood. Although most of us never stop learning but our childhood will definitely have a strong influence of the kind of person we become. And one of the quality time that I spend with my 'kins (pamangkin - nieces and nephews) is playtime. Art is one of the fascinating activities that a child should be encouraged to engaged with. For them to appreciate colors, wonder at the magic of their creation ( so they ought to be affirmed) and just simply exercising their motor skills to use brush and mix colors. Yana doing water color. Siblings Ayen, Yana and Vjay with water color. Ball games is definitely fun. Games of their creation a lot better for their creativity. Let them run, let them sweat, allow them sunshine, get dirtied, create game rules, role play, negotiate, quar...

Ang Tatay Ko Bagong Bayani!

Image

Harana...dalaw...ligaw... kasal...

Image
(A foto taken at Villa Escudero. Before when a gentleman wants to win the heart of a lady, he would visit and serenade her at her house. These days they would just go to a mall or videoke bars. When the lady likes the guy (and that of her parents as well) what follows is a church wedding. Everyone would shout: Long live the newly wed! So everyone will get a chance to "sip a hot soup" [Filipino idiom referring to marriage]). As a young boy growing up in the 70's and 80's I have fond memories of those wedding I attended in our province in Ilocos Norte. I plan to write le...

Ihip ng Hangin - Saranggola ni Pepe

Image
(Awit ni Celeste Legaspi) This photo was taken last 5th of May, Children's Day of Korea, it was a holiday so the park was teeming with children and their parents. It was windy so kites made their presence on the sky. But it was the adults (their dad) who enjoyed flying kite the most, it was them who controlled the kite's thread to keep it afloat. So some of the kids were protesting to have the chance to play with the the kite. I am so glad to find this video from You Tube since it is children related as well. The music was performed by a children's choir (kids of Overseas Filipino Workers) based in Jeddah, KSA. Read the comments made by the owner of the video. I hope that these children understand and appreciate ...

Diwata ng Tubig sa Siyudad

Image
Urban Water Nymph Your new paradise is the city In a forest of tall buildings Breathing fume of vehicles Where the harmony of birds and insects Are now cacophony of beeps and vrooms In the melody of sputter and pour of the fountain I beheld… an apparition, hiding in a curtain of water. (This photo was originally posted with this link: http://peterahon.blogspot.com/2008/04/eunjin-urban-fairy.html )

Umaapoy, nagliliyab... nagliwanag!

Image

(This is my second entry to Litratong Pinoy. This monument is dedicated to all the heroes of the May 1...

Malungkot - Litratong Pinoy Entry (Sadness)

Image
Here is my entry to Litratong Pinoy, it is a group of Filipino photo enthusiasts. To join the group applicants should submit a photo corresponding to a particular theme. I thought I could submit just any photo but a theme should be observed. Good thing with the hundreds of fotos I have taken I have stock of fotos to use to join them. Below is my entry and its Filipino description and my own English translation, trying to create prose, hehehe… Describing the foto, I just thought it destroys the relevance for which the foto should speak for itself. Well, am obedient and should follow the application rule. (Her silence is shrouded in myster...
