Tagalog is No. 15 most popular at Forvo.com

TAGALOG I am so glad to see that Tagalog from obscurity is now No. 15 among the most popular languages at Forvo.com. English and Portugues are on the top. There are total of 191 languages registered. With 4,796 users or contributors and a total of 34 editors. Having contributed lots of words I was invited to become editor so I can contribute more words. But pronouncing the words is a bit tedious task but fun. It is fun to submit those words for others to hear them, am trying to learn as well how words I know in Spanish are being pronounced by other speakers from Spain and Latin America. Ilokano is another language that I submitted and edits it is ranked at No. 21. I hope more Ilocanos will join and contribute. I have yet to see other languages of the Philippines.

Ilokano: Forvo's Language of the Day

I am so glad to see that Forvo featured Ilokano as word for the day. Discovering it on the internet through downloadsquad , with my intention of learning Korean I found this new service. But instead of learning, I am contributing Ilocano words and pronouncing most of them. With my contributed word am now at the top 20 and top 30 with the pronounced words. Well I hope people could make use of it should they be interested to learn Ilocano, a mixture of different languages with influence of Spanish (but unlike Chavacano which is 80% (?) of Spanish), very closely related with Bahasa Indonesia or Malaysia, etc. People at Forvo are very accommodating. I suggested to include Ilokano and the next day they sent me an email informing that it was already included. Tagalog another language of the Philippines was there only with one word contributed, so I contributed more words. I found out also that my joining Forvo was also in line with UNESCO's celebration for the International Year of Lang...

WOW, Taglish na ang Blogger

Hahahaha (malutong, crispy(?), hehehe) that was my reaction ! I tried switching the language from English to Taglish (not Filipino technically). There are some funny and unusual words that are being used or to say an appropriation of Filipino. inu-upload - ini-uupload/ina-upload ( this is hard ) preview - silip ( tanaw/patingin? ) (labels) etiketa - I easily associated with ethics - bansag/pamagat could be an alternative i-publish - could be ilathala /ilimbag Especially that language (a national language) remains a very sensitive issue in the Philippines. Is it language or dialect? A question that linguists and social scientists are coming up with a consensus. I do subscribe that Filipinos are for real multi-lingual, not speaking different dialects. A writer asked whether Ilocano (or the other so called dialects) is dialect of which language, definitely not Filipino or Tagalog since an Ilocano won't understand or be able to talk to a Tagalog speaker. Definitely my paternal...
